Participant information statement

This is an internet-based survey. Every effort will be made to ensure that responses are confidential, however Raise Our Voice Australia (ROVA) cannot guarantee the confidentiality or anonymity of material transferred by email or the internet.   

What does my participation involve?

What is the purpose of this research?

●      The purpose of this research is to learn more about the  way that young women and gender diverse persons engage in politics, and whether this participation has changed over the last 12 months as a result of reporting around Grace Tame, Brittany Higgins, and the issues they champion.

What does participation in this research involve?

ROVA will take every care to remove any identifying material from the responses you provide as early as possible. Likewise individuals' responses will be kept confidential by ROVA and participants will not be identified in the reporting of the research. However, ROVA cannot guarantee the confidentiality or anonymity of material transferred by email or the internet.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?

ROVA cannot guarantee or promise that you will receive any benefits from this research; however, possible benefits may include influencing the media discussion around young women and gender diverse person’s political participation, influencing the way political parties think about the way they engage young women and gender diverse persons, and galvanising grassroots movements.

What are the possible risks and disadvantages of taking part?

It is not anticipated that there are any risks to participation in this study beyond those encountered in everyday life. 

Do I have to take part in this research project/survey/whatever you’re doing?

Participation in any research project conducted by ROVA is completely voluntary.  If you do not wish to take part, you do not have to. If you decide to take part and later change your mind, you are free to withdraw from the project at any stage, by letting us know at hello@raiseourvoiceaustralia.com.

If you do decide to take part, you can access the Participant Information Sheet on the ROVA website at www.raiseourvoiceaustralia.com/participant-information and will be required to provide consent prior to being taken to the questions/participating in the project/whatever you’re doing.

Your decision whether to take part or not to take part, or to take part and then withdraw, will not affect your current or future participation in ROVA activities.

What happens if I withdraw?

You are free to decline to complete the survey or to withdraw from the research at any point while completing the survey, without affecting your relationship with ROVA, either now or in the future. Once you submit your survey, however, we are unable to remove your response as it will be impossible to identify your completed survey.

What will happen to information about me?

ROVA does not collect any personal information from you when completing a survey anonymously. If answering a survey anonymously, please refrain from disclosing any personal or sensitive information.  

If you would like to disclose your contact details for the purposes of ROVA contacting you for a follow up interview, your personal information will be handled in accordance with ROVA's Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for any personal information provided to our third-party hosting sites (such as Google Forms, Survey Monkey, and Typeform).

Should you share your email address to have a follow up conversation, your email address will be removed from your data set at the earliest convenience to ensure your responses remain anonymous. The deidentified data set may be used in media, and will be published on Raise Our Voice Australia’s website. No identifying details will be shared without consent being sought. Data will be retained for a 5 year period. Raise Our Voice Australia uses cloud based storage solutions, including but not limited to Google Drive, OneDrive and DropBox. All records containing personal information will remain confidential and no information which could lead to identification of any individual will be released, unless required by law OR if individuals will be able to be identified, a statement should be included making them aware of this.  What happens when the research project ends?

A summary of project results will be available from the end of March 2022 from the Raise Our Voice Australia website. If you provide your contact details for the purposes of a follow-up interview with ROVA, you will be contacted via email.

 Who is organising and funding the research?

This research project is being conducted by ROVA and is being sponsored by The Body Shop Australia. ROVA may benefit financially from this research project, for example, if the project exists ROVA in any commercial enterprise.

You will not benefit financially from your involvement in this research project even if, for example, knowledge acquired from your information/response proves to be of commercial value to ROVA. In addition, if knowledge acquired through this research leads to discoveries that are of commercial value to The Body Shop or ROVA, there will be no financial benefit to you or your family from these discoveries. No member of the ROVA team will receive a personal financial benefit from your involvement in this research project. There are no known declarations of interest amongst the ROVA team.
